SignConnects Grounds for Appeal (Level 1 and 2)

Summative, Practical Assessment & Formal Review:

You may appeal your assessment results on the following grounds:

  • Incorrect Calculation of Results: You believe that the results were calculated incorrectly.
  • Assessment Criteria Not Reflected: You believe that the results do not reflect some or most of the assessment criteria.
  • Mitigating Circumstances Not Considered: Your results did not account for agreed-upon mitigating circumstances.

To proceed with an appeal, you must provide evidence supporting your grounds for the appeal.

1. Incorrect Calculation of Results

If you believe your results were calculated incorrectly due to a technological fault, please submit your appeal with supporting evidence. The awarding body will manually recalculate your results. If the recalculated results remain the same, you will not receive a refund for the appeal. If an error is found and your marks are adjusted, you will receive a full refund for the appeal fee. You should receive the outcome of your appeal within four weeks of submission.

2. Results Do Not Reflect Assessment Criteria

If your results did not reflect some or most of the assessment criteria, you must:

  • Reference the specific criteria you are appealing against.
  • Provide your reasoning with supporting evidence, including relevant timelines from your video assessment.
  • Another assessor will review your appeal and all points you have raised. Please note that the assessor may either lower, remain the same or increase your grade according to the assessment criteria. You should receive a response within four weeks of the submission.

If your grade is increased, you will receive a refund, and your results will be corrected accordingly. If your results remain the same or are lowered, you can make a final appeal to a panel. This appeal can address the process of how your appeal was handled, but not the results themselves. If successful, you will be able to resit the exam at no cost and should receive your new results within six weeks of the resit and receive a full refund for the appeal process.

3. Mitigating Circumstances Not Considered

If you believe your final mark did not account for agreed-upon mitigating circumstances (such as special educational needs, disability, or mental health issues affecting your performance), please:

  • Provide supporting evidence.
  • Ensure that the centre completed a mitigation form indicating the required reasonable adjustments.
  • Confirm you received notification that your mitigation claim was successful.

If your appeal is successful, you will receive a full refund and your marks will be adjusted accordingly. If your appeal is unsuccessful, you will have the opportunity to resit the exam at a later date.

4. Cost

The candidate is responsible for the cost of the appeal; the appeal will not be considered until the centre confirms receipt of payment.

5. Formal Review

Formative Assessment Appeal

A candidate can appeal against their results if they believe the exam centre did not follow its own internal appeal process, which has directly affected their results. The candidate must provide proof of a breach of policy and submit it to SignConnects via this form.

SignConnects will consider whether there has been a breach of the internal process. If SignConnects’ investigation shows a breach, the centre must give the candidate an opportunity to retake the formative assessment and the feedback for the presentation or coursework must be signed by a second tutor.

If SignConnects finds that the centre did not break their policy, candidates’ results will stay the same. Candidate must speak to your teacher about his/her next steps. If your presentation or essay failed, you can do it again without paying extra.
