Inclusive Qualifications for All Learners

At SignConnects, we ensure our qualifications are accessible to all students, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and additional learning requirements. As a pending-approval awarding body, we work with centres, students, and families to provide reasonable adjustments that enable every learner to demonstrate their skills fairly.

Assessment Modifications:

  • Extended time for written and practical components
  • Rest breaks during assessments
  • Alternative assessment formats
  • Modified question papers (large print, simplified language)
  • Use of assistive technology

Physical and Sensory Support:

  • Accessible assessment venues
  • Additional lighting or seating arrangements
  • Support for visual and hearing impairments
  • Specialist equipment provision

Communication and Processing Support:

  • Prompts and encouragement during assessments
  • Alternative demonstration methods
  • Support for autism spectrum conditions
  • Anxiety management arrangements
  • Modified assessment environments

For more information regarding access arrangements, please refer to Ofqual and JCQ Guidance, as well as communicate with your Centre. It is your Centre’s responsibility to ensure that appropriate access arrangements are in place by the appropriate deadlines.

Who can apply?

Students with diagnosed or evidenced:

  • Learning difficulties (dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD)
  • Autism spectrum conditions
  • Physical disabilities
  • Sensory impairments
  • Mental health conditions affecting assessment
  • Medical conditions impacting learning
  • Speech, language and communication needs

Evidence Required:

  • Educational psychologist reports
  • Medical diagnoses or consultant letters
  • Previous evidence of support in education
  • Teacher assessments and observations
  • Occupational therapy reports where relevant

Application Process:

Step 1: Early Contact Contact your course provider as early as possible to discuss needs. Applications should be submitted at least 6 weeks before assessment.

Step 2: Submit Evidence Provide documentation demonstrating:

  • Nature of additional needs
  • Impact on learning and assessment
  • Recommended adjustments
  • History of educational support

Step 3: Review and Decision Our learning support team reviews evidence, consults professionals if needed, and determines appropriate adjustments.

Step 4: Implementation Approved adjustments are communicated to assessment centres and documented for consistency.
