External Quality Assurance (EQA) Requirements:
SignConnects is committed to maintaining high standards for Level 1, 2, and 3 Certificate in Sign Language (CSW) qualifications. To ensure quality and consistency, centres are required to participate in External Quality Assurance (EQA) processes.
Centres delivering the SignConnects courses will be graded in the following manner accordance to how they deliver and assess the course.
- Outstanding (Grade 1)
- Good (Grade 2)
- Required for improvement (Grade 3)
- Inadequate (Grade 4)
Frequency:
Centres will submit candidate coursework (essays) or presentations for EQA every one to two years.
Selection of Coursework:
- SignConnects encourages centres to conduct IQA (Internal Quality Assurances) on a representative sample of candidate work.
- We request a minimum of one piece of work from each category: Distinction*, Distinction, Merit, and Pass.
- If a category has no candidates, please submit what is available.
- If all candidates achieved Pass or Merit, please submit two examples from each category.
Submission Process:
- Coursework can be submitted electronically through the SignConnects portal.
- On-site inspections may be conducted at SignConnects discretion. Centres will be notified in 14 days and inspection team would request to see other candidates work.
Required Documentation:
- When submitting coursework, please include:
- A copy of the completed feedback form for each candidate.
- The candidate’s coursework (essay) or presentation with accompanying notes.
- If reasonable adjustments were granted, a completed form outlining the adjustments and rationale.
Reasonable Adjustments:
- Centres are required to disclose any reasonable adjustments granted to candidates during assessments.
- Please complete the designated form outlining the specific adjustments and justification.
Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) by Centres:
SignConnects encourages centres to conduct Internal Quality Assessments (IQA) by qualified assessors. This ensures centres meet SignConnects standards for candidate work.
Inspection Outcomes:
- Following EQA, SignConnects will provide feedback in one of the following forms:
- Suggestions for improvement (not mandatory).
- Required actions to ensure compliance with SignConnects policies (is mandatory).
- Centres will be given a reasonable timeframe to address any required actions.
- A follow-up review will be conducted at the next EQA meeting.
